Lyons (company)
Lyons was a British company known in its early history for running a chain of tea shops and latterly for its range of ice creams and ice lollies. It was taken over by another company in 1992 and its range of ice products were eventually bought by Nestlé.
To handle the boring accounts and logistics of the tea shops , an employee, John Simmons, designed and built the Lyons Electronic Office. Known as LEO, it was, in the 50s and 60s, the most powerful computer in the world. Lack of ambition and investment meant that the computer was soon overtaken by that of companies such as IBM.
