Magnum is a world-renowned photographic agency, holding offices in New York, Paris, London and Tokyo.

Founded in 1947, as a direct response to World War II experiences, by legendary war photographer Robert Capa, David "Chim" Seymour, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, and Bill Vandivert , Magnum is probably the first photographic cooperative, entirely owned and controlled by its members. Its staff supports rather than directs the photographers, and copyright is held by the authors of the works, not by the magazines that publish the images, which gives the photographers the freedom to work on inspiring projects without necessarily needing an assignment.

The Magnum cooperative has included some of the world's most famous international photographers and photojournalists, and has produced many of the most iconic photographs of the second half of the 20th century. The Magnum collection includes images about the widest variety of subjects, including family life, drugs, religion, war, poverty, famine, crime, government and celebrities. Magnum photographers have covered most of the historical events of the past decades.
