Mai Shiranui (不知火舞 Shiranui Mai) is a character from the Fatal Fury series of fighting games by SNK Playmore.

According to her official biography, Mai was born on January 1, 1975. She stands 1.64 m (5 ft 4 in) and weighs 50 kg (110 lb). Her blood type is B. Her three sizes are .85 m (33"), .54 m (21"), and .90 m (35"). Her hobby is making osechi, her favorite food is ozouni, her favorite sport is hane-tsuki, and her treasured possession is a hairpin received from her grandmother. She hates spiders.

Mai's fighting style is Shiranui-style Ninjutsu, which she trained in, and also uses pyrokinesis to augment her martial skill. In her mind, Andy Bogard is her fiance who learned Ninjutsu from her grandfather Hanzo. Andy feels like she is a little sister, and tries to suppress any romantic notions he might have for her.

When both grew up, Andy came to be a good-looking young man and Mai a very attractive woman. However, Andy decided to travel back to the United States, and reunite with his brother Terry to exact revenge on Geese Howard, the man who killed their father.

Mai was infuriated, but had no choice but to stay and keep training. She knew that Andy would come back one day. Andy came back. Not much time later, Andy returned to Japan in order to continue his training. He had found out in his fights in Southtown that he had been fighting for personal emotion, and not for the real sense of fighting.

Mai did not care for any of that, she just wanted Andy to be close to her again! So, when Wolfgang Krauser decided to go out in search of worthy fighters, she followed Andy to fight him. After the journey, Mai felt more attached to Andy, and thought it was the time to wrap things up.

• Mai has been voiced by Akoya Sogi all the way.

• Among anime fans, Mai has been very popular because of the way she is portrayed: she is seen by many as a prime example of "large-breasted" depictions of women in anime. She is typically portrayed wearing exceptionally low-cut blouses, dresses, and clothing to maximize the exposure of her cleavage, and most fight scenes involving Mai include several shots that focus especially on her bosom.

• In her win poses, Mai says "Nippon Ichi" (roughly translated: "Japan is number one"). In North America it has often been misheard as "Me bouncy" among fans. Ironically, there are those who feel that "Me bouncy" perfectly fits Mai.
