Makrysi

Makrysi or Makryssi, Makrissi or Makrisi (Greek, Modern, correctly: Μακρύσι, incorrectly: Μακρίσι, Ancient/Katharevousa: -on), older forms Makrisio, Makrision, is a village that is located 3 km from the Megalopolitan plateia and now 1 km east of the Megalopolis Bypass of the old GR-7/E-65 (older E961 ) in the municipality of Megalopoli and in the southwestern part of the prefecture of Arcadia. It also have a subdivision named Kato Makrissi. It was linked by GR-7/E55, now it is 5 km N. The highway is straightly aligned for nearly 3 km. Curvy roads are nearly 1 km east. It is located SE of Dimitsana and about 30 km SE of Karytaina, 30 km WSW of Tripoli, WNW of 7 km NE of Leontari, 58 km NNE of Kalamata and about 60 km ENE of Kyparissia.

The total population of Makryssi dropped almost by half between 1981 and 1991. There are 15 families for Makrysi in 2001. The population of Makrysi between 1991 and 2001 rose again.

The area has no school, a church, but there are no squares (plateia). Its residential houses are mainly within the road.

During the Greek War of Independence, Zacharias Barbitsiotis , a robber defeated the Turks in Salesi.

Until the 20th century somewhere in the 1920s, it was known as Salesi (Σάλεσι).

Until the pavement of GR-7 in the mid-20th century, the village didn't had paved roads or electricity. Until the mid-1980s, much of the houses were stone-built.

Construction of the Megalopoli Bypass began in the 1990s but it was delayed until 1999. Traffic bypassing Megalopoli was opened in 2001.

Kato Makrissi is a small hamlet situated SW of Makryssi and near the Megalopoli By-pass.
