Managing director
Managing director is the traditional term for the top executive of a business in the United Kingdom and some other English speaking countries, but not in the United States.
The American term Chief Executive Officer (or just "Chief Executive" or the abbreviation "CEO") is now in general usage in the United Kingdom for the top executive of large stock market listed companies. At smaller companies and subsidiary companies usage is more variable, with "managing director" often still preferred.
