Mandy Hampton

Madeline 'Mandy' Hampton, White House media consultant is a fictional character played by Moira Kelly on the television serial drama The West Wing.

Former girlfriend of Josh Lyman, Mandy was a media consultant during the Bartlet campaign for the presidency, and was brought to the White House in the second year of Bartlet's first term (the first season of the show) in a similar capacity after several PR gaffes.

The character left the show without story explanation after the first season. Although no reference to her departure was made in the plot, writer Aaron Sorkin mentions in an official West Wing book that her character "wasn't working" and that her departure was amicable. Mandy was originally intended to be the main romantic foil for Josh Lyman, but after a few episodes it became clear that Donna worked better in that role and Mandy never fit in well with the rest of the ensemble cast. It can be assumed that the character of Mandy left the White House sometime in the period of roughly six months between the first season's finale and the end of the second season's third episode.
