Manhunter: New York (1988, Sierra On-Line) was a post-apocalyptic adventure_game set in the then-futuristic year 2004, on an Earth enslaved by a race of aliens known as the Orbs. The Orbs, who look like giant floating eyeballs, have implanted all humans with tracking devices, and force them to wear nondescript robes and never speak. The protagonist has been assigned by the Orbs to track down fellow humans who are believed to be forming an underground resistance.

The game was published by Sierra On-Line in 1988 and was designed and programmed by Barry Murry , Dave Murry , and Dee Dee Murry (of Evryware ), using Sierra's Adventure Game Interpreter (AGI). Unlike other AGI games, it did not use a text parser, used a first-person perspective, and featured a rudimentary point-and-click interface, in some ways foreshadowing later games like Myst. The gritty, sometimes gory visuals, unique interface, and use of real-life locations in New York City all helped set the game apart from Sierra's other product, which was typically more family oriented.

A follow-up game, Manhunter: San Francisco (1989), continued the story but offered few new innovations. The series was not continued.
