Manto Tshabala-Msimang
(Redirected from Manto Tshabalala-Msimang)
Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang is (as of 2005) Health Minister of South Africa under the government of Thabo Mbeki. She first served from 1994 to 1999, became Foreign Minister for a short time, and returned as Health Minister in 2000.
She graduated from Fort Hare University.
Her second term in office has been controversial regarding AIDS and anti-retroviral treatments, her prioritisation of these issues, and her dissident outlook around AIDS in Africa.
A frequent opponent of hers has been the Treatment Action Campaign, and leader Zackie Achmat, who accuse the government of inaction in the face of an AIDS epidemic.
