Marabou Stork Nightmares
Marabou Stork Nightmares is a novel by Irvine Welsh, author of Trainspotting.
Marabou Stork Nightmares is one of Irvine Welsh's most "action packed" novels, one that can actually be read in one go, being under 300 pages and all. The main character is in a coma and the narrative changes between his fantasy where he's hunting for one particular Marabou Stork with his friend and guide Sandy Jamieson, a professional safari hunter, flashbacks into his past which eventually tells us how he wound up in this condition and the things that are being said, sung around him and which he can hear and not happy about being able to hear because he invariably wants to go

to Efrikay (Africa) where him and Jamieson are stalking the Marabou and he gets
really pissed off up to where he can hear each time up what's said in the room he comes up around him
He can't always get deep enough for Efrikay though and then we're in his memory flashbacks where we sortay follow him from the time he was a wee bairn and moved with his family to Sooth Efrikay for 18 months and all the way until the time he grows up and moves down to Manchester. But retelling the story here actually makes no sense, it's about lots of things, the scheme and the schemies, love for Churchill, apartheid, fitba casuals, the power of E, how computers are where the future lies, homosexuality, being ugly but tough in school and of course above all it's about Zero Tolerance.
