Marco Cardinal Cé
His Eminence Marco Cardinal Cé (born 8 July 1925) is a Cardinal Priest and Patriarch Emeritus of Venice in the Roman Catholic Church.
Born in Izano , Italy, Cé was educated at the Diocesan Seminary , earning a doctorate in dogmatic theology and a licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Gregorian University. Ordained as a priest in 1948, he retured to his home diocese and became vice-rector of the local seminary, rising to be named rector in 1957.
Appointed titular Bishop of Vulturia and auxiliary to Antonio Cardinal Poma in Bologna by Pope Paul VI in 1970, he was ordained on 17 May 1970 in the Cathedral of Crema . In 1976, he was named Chaplain to Catholic Action . Shortly after the succession of John Paul II to the papacy, Cé was appointed Patriarch of Venice, being proclaimed cardinal in the consistory of 30 June 1979. Since 5 January 2002, he has held the title of patriarch emeritus of Venice.
