Mark Green
This article concerns Wisconsin Representative Mark Green. For the New York City lawyer, author, and politician, see Mark J. Green.
Mark Andrew Green (born June 1 1960) is an American politician and a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the Eighth Congressional District of Wisconsin (map).
Green was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Jeremy and Elizabeth Green, immigrants from South Africa and Great Britain, respectively. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1983 and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987.
Green served for six years in the Wisconsin State Assembly before being elected to the House in 1998. He currently serves as Assistant Majority Whip.
Green has publicly expressed interest in running for Governor of Wisconsin in 2006 against current Governor Jim Doyle, a Democrat. He has already transferred funds from his federal campaign fund to a state fund in preparation for the race. [1] The Wisconsin Democratic Party charged that Republicans in the state legislature adjusted the rules about such transfers to give Green an unfair advantage over all other candidates. [2]
