Mark Ryden
Mark Ryden is one of the reigning art stars of Juxtapoz, and one of the most popular painters among goth girls the world over. His work combines a hyper-cute cartoony sensibility -- much like the doe-eyed Margaret Keane creatures of the '60s -- with a beautiful detailed fullness and a creepy combination of numerological, religious and American mythology.
Like other modern gothy illustrators Dame Darcy and Edward Gorey, Ryden was heavily influenced by the surreal work of Alice in Wonderland illustrator John Tenniel.
