Marta Suplicy is a former São Paulo mayor.

Marta Suplicy, of the Brazilian workers party (PT), started her career as a TV anchor. She handed sex tips on the popular TV Mulher show.

After running for governor of the São Paulo state and losing to Mario Covas, she won the elections for the township of the state's capital, São Paulo, in 2000.

Ruling form 2001 to 2004, she administrated the largest basic income network in Latin America.

She lost the 2004 elections to candidate José Serra, from Social Democratic party, in portuguese, Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB).

Marta Suplicy has three sons, one of which is a rockstar named Supla. She was married to a Brazilian senator for the state of São Paulo, Eduardo Suplicy and divorced very little after she won the election as mayor of Sao Paulo. Later, she married her current husband.

Her time as a mayor of the city is remembered by the changes she did in the city's bus system, creation of taxes, as well as rushed construction of tunnels in her last year as a mayor.
