Masaryk University in Brno
Masaryk University in Brno is the second largest university in the Czech Republic. Founded 1919 in Brno as the second Czech university, it has now nine faculties and around 30000 students. It is named after Tomas Masaryk, the president of Czechoslovakia at the time of its founding.
In 1960 the university was renamed as Jan Evangelista Purkyně University after Jan Evangelista Purkyně, Czech biologist. It regained its original name in 1990.
