Maurice Garin
Maurice Garin (March 3, 1871-February 19, 1957) was the first winner of the Tour de France. He was born in Italy but became a naturalized French citizen. He was disqualified in the 1904 Tour for taking a train through part of the route; he subsequently retired from professional cycling and ran a small repair shop in Lens until his death.
