Maxim (saying)
A maxim is a wise saying similar to an aphorism. Theorist of management strategies Henry Mintzberg has a syllogism:
- Most maxims are obvious
- Not all maxims are meaningful
- Some obvious maxims are contradicted by other obvious maxims
Therefore
- Beware of maxims
(Mintzberg, 1998:92) This could refer to the revised ed. of The Strategy Process (1998), with James Brian Quinn and Sumantra Ghoshal, or to Strategy Safari: A Guided Tour Through the Wilds of Strategic Management (1998)
