Mega Man (character)

Mega Man is a video game character and the star of the main Mega Man series created by Capcom. He was designed by Keiji Inafune. In Japan, he is known as Rockman.

Contents

Origins

Mega Man was originally a simple robot named Rock, equipped with the ability to use any tool. He and his sister, Roll, aided the genius scientists Dr. Thomas Light and Dr. Albert Wily in their various experiments and projects, more as a test of the Robot Master AI system than out of a real need for help. Such was his life; there was little more to it than that.

However, one day, Dr. Wily broke his partnership with Dr. Light. Wily stole the six production-model robots that the two had built and reprogrammed them to obey only him. Rock and Roll were also stolen, but their unique internal architecture allowed them to resist all attempts at reprogramming, and due to this, Wily left them with Light. Rock, having a strong sense of justice, volunteered to be upgraded to a super fighting robot to stop the evil desires of Dr. Wily: and thus, the warrior known as Mega Man was born.

Character

Mega Man has the equivalent intelligence of a ten-year-old boy, without the capacity for further maturation that some future robots, like Mega Man X, would have (see reploid). However, he is loyal to Dr. Light and always tries to stand up for humanity.

Mega Man has a twin sister, Roll, and an older brother, Proto Man (called Blues in Japan). He also has robotic pets: a dog, Rush, a cat, Tango, and a bird, Beat.

He lives in the midwestern United States with Dr. Light.

Specifications

Profile

  • Name: DRN-001 ROCK
  • Height: 132 cm (4'4")
  • Weight: 105 kg (230 lbs)
  • Strength: Possesses a strong sense of justice
  • Weakness: Can sometimes be a little careless
  • Likes: Animals
  • Dislikes: Things that disturb the peace

Abilities

  • Variable Weapons System: An advanced form of Rock's original ability to use any tool, the Variable Weapons System allows Mega Man to adapt the attacks of his enemies and make them his own. However, he usually has to defeat them in combat first. The VWS also changes the colors of Mega Man's armor as an unintended side-effect.
  • Mega Buster: A particle-based energy weapon that uses compressed solar energy to create physical impact.
  • New Mega Buster: Introduced in Mega Man IV. This updated Mega Buster can further condense large quantities of solar energy into a "charge shot".
  • Super Mega Buster: Introduced in Mega Man V. This update is little more than a hack by Dr. Cossack in an attempt to squeeze more power out of the charge shot. It worked, but it causes noticable kickback and causes stress on Mega Man's system.
  • Mega Arm: Introduced in Mega Man V (GB). Created to combat armor that reflects energy weapons as a replacement of the Super Mega Buster's unstable charge shot, this adaption adds a physical projectile: Mega Man's forearm, which retains enough of the charged energy to propel its way back to its master.
  • Hyper Mega Buster: Introduced in Mega Man VI. This is a more refined version of the Super Mega Buster, modified by Dr. Light to ensure Mega Man's safety during operation.
  • Mega Upper: Introduced in Mega Man VII. Charged solar energy surrounds the fist, multiplying the damage of this close-range physical attack.

Other characters named Mega Man

There are many characters in the Mega Man games who use the names "Mega Man" or "Rockman" but are not the Mega Man. These include Rockman Shadow, Mega Man X, Rockman iX, Mega Man Voulnutt, Mega Man Juno, and MegaMan.EXE, among others.
