Melville Henry Cane

Melville H. Cane (April 15, 1879 - March 10, 1980) was an American lawyer and poet. As a Columbia University student Cane worked as a reporter at the New York Evening Post and also wrote poetry. Cane earned his law degree in 1905 and later specialized in copyright law.

Interestingly, Cane was a legal counsel to notable writers like Sinclair Lewis, Upton Sinclair and William Saroyan, and also served on the board of directors for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc. Cane was also awarded a special medal by the Poetry Society of America.

Some of Cane's works are: January Garden (1926), Behind Dark Places' (1930), And Pastures New (1956) and Snow Towards Evening (1974).
