Memnon

In Greek mythology, Memnon was an Ethiopian king and son of Tithonus and Eos. At the Trojan War, he brought an army to Troy's defense and was killed by Achilles. However, he first killed Antilochus. After his death, Zeus was moved by Eos' tears and granted him immortality.

Memnon was a Greek historian. In about the 1st century AD he wrote a history of Heracleia Pontica , a city in Asia Minor on the Black Sea. Extracts from this history were preserved by Photius.

Memnon of Rhodes (380333 BC): was the commander of the Greek mercenaries working for the Persian King Darius III when Alexander the Great of Macedonia invaded Persia in 334 BC and won the Battle of the Granicus River.
