Mental Break

Mental Break was a death metal band, formed in Sweden in 2003. They played a rough, hard-edged form of metal with dark lyrics. The lyrics were written by Jotte PD, who also plays the guitar and sings backing vocals . The band was formed by schoolmates Jotte PD (b.1989), Macke Kaninöra (b.1988), Magnus (b.1989), Öijer (b.1989), Jorge (b.1989), and Tomas “The Icelander” Westrin (born in Iceland).

The band rehearsed in a garage in Forsbacka , Sweden, where they also wrote their first songs together. Most songs were written by Jotte PD when he was still in alt-metal Kings Balm, formed with his younger brother Jorge. Those songs include “Flies” and hit single “Nevercry”.

After a while rehearsing in the garage, Mental Break had a real set list, including a very fast cover of the Black Sabbath classic Iron Man. Grindcore bands around the world found themselves outsped.

The band then recorded their debut EP, Flies/Nevercry, which sold very well. The band were now officially the second biggest band at Sofiedalsskolan.

"The Icelander" was kicked out of the band because of his enormous drug abuse. He now lives with his parents, but continues to record songs using the well known program Ejay.

The band went out on a tour supporting the debut EP, but internal struggles made their first show (at The Pit) their last. During a fiery rendition of “Shit”, Jotte PD fell down and broke his cheekbone. He went on to join Shitmonky.
