Merseybeat
Merseybeat, sometimes referred to as Merseysound, was a style of music popular during the 1960s. It originated in Liverpool, England as a fusion of rock and roll, skiffle and R&B and remained popular only locally until the breakthrough success of the Beatles, Gerry & the Pacemakers and Cilla Black, among others. The name is derived from the river Mersey, flowing through Liverpool.
One of the most popular merseybeat bands was called The Merseybeats.
