(Redirected from Metropolitan Areas of Sweden)
The Metropolitan Areas of Sweden, "Storstadsområden" ("Greater City Areas" in Swedish), are statistical regions defined by Statistics Sweden. There are three of them, surrounding the three largest cities in Sweden:
- Greater Stockholm (pop.: 1,695,946),
- Greater Gothenburg (pop.: 816,931) and
- Greater Malmö (pop.: 539,190).
All three areas can also be counted to larger urban regions:
- Stockholm-Mälaren Region,
- Gothenburg Region and
- Øresund Region respectively.
These larger regions are political, not statistical regions, formed by municipalities and counties for metropolitan cooperation.
