Michael K. Allen

Michael K. Allen (born circa 1956) is an American lawyer active in Ohio Republican politics. Since January 1999, he has been the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney in Cincinnati.

Allen is a native of Cincinnati, graduating from Elder High School and the University of Cincinnati. He received his J.D. from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Allen served as a police officer, prosecutor, and judge before being named chairman of the Hamilton County Republican Party in 1996. In 1999, when incumbent Joseph Deters was elected Ohio State Treasurer, Allen was appointed Hamilton County Prosecutor. Allen as prosecutor has pursued the Roman Catholic Church for the molestation of children by priests and pursued pornography cases. He has been an outspoken conservative and active in politics.

In August 2004, Allen announced he had a three and a half year adulterous affair with a lawyer on his staff, Rebecca Collins, one day before she filed a federal lawsuit charging sexual harassment. Allen is under investigation by the Ohio Attorney General and the Hamilton County Commissioners. Amid the scandal, Allen resigned his post as Southwest Ohio chairman of George W. Bush's re-election campaign. In September, he withdrew from the November ballot--he had been running unopposed--but did not resign his office.
