Microchip (animal identification)
A microchip is an identifying integrated circuit placed under the skin of a dog or cat.
Microchips have been particularly useful in the return of lost pets. They may also assist in cases where ownership of a particular animal is disputed.
Microchips are not in universal use, but they are legal requirements in some jurisdictions, such as the state of New South Wales, Australia.
