Midland F1

Midland F1 is a Russian Formula One team. It was created by Russian-born Canadian Alex Shnaider , co-founder of the Midland Group , a construction company most active in Russia.

Midland Group bought Jordan Grand Prix in 2005. The team will continue to be known as Jordan for the 2005 Formula One season, but will probably change its name to Midland F1 for the 2006 season.

According to Shnaider, Midland's acquisition of Jordan will not affect the team's plans to start from scratch. The team will run with Dallara chassis, and also plans to run Russia's first Formula One driver. Midland have employed the Russian driver Roman Rusinov to test the Dallara chassis, and perhaps also the 2005 Jordan chassis.

An engine supplier has not yet been confirmed, although Midland is said to be trying to acquire Ferrari engines (although Jordan's Toyota engines will still be used in 2005). The team's principal will be Trevor Carlin , owner of the Formula Three team Carlin .

Buying Jordan Grand Prix means that Midland F1 do not have to pay the $48 million deposit required in order to enter Formula One. Midland will also have immediate access to television revenues.

Shnaider has also revealed that he plans to set up a Midland Formula Three team, which he would use to develop young Russian drivers.
