Mileena
Mileena is a character in the Mortal Kombat video game series.
About Mileena
Mileena has always been defined by her relationship with the other characters more than the others. Created by Shang Tsung, a puppet of an evil overlord and always an enemy of her supposed twin, Kitana. In contrast to Kitana, however, Mileena does not hide purity and kindness under her veiled appearance, but tragic evil. Horribly deformed like the Tarkatan race, she has a constant but unreliable partner in Baraka, but like him, her schemes never come to fruition because she remains under control from or submitted to a higher authority. Her distinct features are agility and frenzied attacks, combined with her trademark weapon, the sai.
Storyline
Mileena was introduced in Mortal Kombat II as Kitana's twin sister. However, as Kitana had found out years ago and the Earthrealm warriors would soon find out as well, Mileena was nothing more than a grotesque clone created by Shang Tsung to enable Shao Kahn, emperor of Outworld, to spy on Kitana, who was a constant threat to his reign in his own environment. Most likely Kitana could not be eliminated by regular means due to her large symbolic value to the peoples of Outworld and Edenia . Ultimately, Mileena was unsuccessful as she was slain by Kitana in battle. Kahn seized this opportunity to imprison Kitana and try her.
During the events of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, however, Kitana managed to escape. Mileena's soul was in the Netherealm , the hell of the Mortal Kombat series. Shinnok, a former Elder God consigned to the infernal realm after waging war with his fellow Elder Gods, permitted her resurrection by Shao Kahn. She returned to Outworld to assist Shao Kahn in his invasion of Earth. The resurrection was appearently a fairly easy process, most likely because her very essence is drawn from the powers of death and decay (which could explain her evil nature to an extent). However, this time Mileena had gained the considerable advantage that she could read Kitana's thoughts. This ability proved to be of little use: not only did attempts to bring back Kitana fail miserably, Mileena was killed again. Kahn later lost the invasion of Earthrealm and also lost Edenia.
On the occupied world of Edenia, during Shinnok's brief reign, around the events of Mortal Kombat Gold , the Fallen Elder God himself used Kahn's tactic of resurrecting Mileena to keep a close watch on Kitana, who had once again eluded capture. Shinnok was defeated, and Mileena was free from service for a few years, but she never stopped plotting to seize the throne of Edenia and kill Kitana, for whom she had developed a murderous hatred.
After Kitana's death and resurrection by Onaga (the Dragon King), Mileena was able to finally assume Kitana’s status as princess of Edenia. She then misled the former princess’s armies in order to give the Dragon King enough time to complete his plans. Somehow she convinced the army to believe that she really was Kitana. The only character that knew that she was really leading Edenia’s armies was Baraka, her secret companion.
Movie Appearance
In Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Mileena (played by Dana Hee) served as an assassin for Shao Kahn. She fought Sonya Blade, who mistook Mileena for Kitana. Sonya killed Mileena, causing the dragon tattoo on Mileena’s shoulder to come to life and quickly disappear. Oddly, the similar appearances of Mileena and Kitana are the only connections between the two characters that the movie makes.
