Miramar, Puerto Rico

Miramar, Puerto Rico is an area located in Puerto Rico's capital city of San Juan.

Miramar is located on the south of the Old San Juan peninsula, east of most touristic attractions in San Juan, south of El Condado, and west of Isla Verde. Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is relatively close by car; Isla Grande Airport is much closer.

Miramar is north of Catano, Puerto Rico; the city of Catano is closer from Miramar by sea than it is by car, and several ferries leave for Catano daily from the nearby dock, which also happens to be Puerto Rico's only cruise ship dock and is actually enclaved in Old San Juan.

The Miramar area is one of various affluent places around the Old San Juan area. Less affluent areas, usually located outside San Juan's touristic areas, are also nearby.

Because of its location, the area has been both the home of some of Puerto Rico's richest people, and also an area where a number of crimes occur. The Black Angus in particular, is a locale where Puerto Rican police have intervened many times, arresting prostitutes.

The famed Academia del Perpetuo Socorro is located in Miramar. Pedro Rossello, who would later on become Puerto Rico's 6th popularly elected Governor, graduated from there. In addition, there is a 23 story hotel in the area with a roof-top restaurant that resembles an air traffic control tower.

Miramar used to have a military air base. The Old Miramar Military Base later on became well known among sports fans for it's weekly boxing shows, some of which were televised live across the island, with some of the most important local boxers fighting there.
