Miss Peru

Peru has been competing in the Miss Universe pageants for over 50 years. Their 1st ever representative was Ada Gabriela Bueno in 1952. 5 years later, It became the 1st Hispanic country to win the Miss Universe crown when Gladys Zender became Miss Universe in 1957. Claudia Ortiz De Zavallos was a semi-finalist in the 2003 Miss Universe competition. Peru has a total of 15 finalists in this annual world-wide contest. Liesel Holler failed to land in the semi-finals in 2004.

Peru has also won the Miss World crown 2 times as well as the Miss Asia Pacific and the Miss Caribean Hisbiscus titles...

In 1967, It won the crown for the first time in the Miss World competition with Madeleine Hartog Bell and later in 2004, Maju Mantilla won the title of Miss World again, thanks to a world-wide vote by text message and telephone calls, a 1st in pageant history. 1st Runner up was Claudia Cruz from Dominican Republic and 2nd runner up was Nancy Randall from the USA.

The Miss Peru 2005 Pageant is currently set to take place in April 16th, 2005. Favourites to win this year are Miss Tumbes, Miss Cajamarca and Miss Uyacali.
