Mission San Jose High School

Mission San Jose High School is one of five public high schools located in Fremont, California. The other four high schools are American, Kennedy, Irvington, and Washington High Schools. MSJHS is located near the Mission San Jose (the name of Mission San José de Guadalupe is actually incorrect). 95% of the senior class goes to a school of higher learning beyond high school.

Demographics

The school currently has 2,035 students and teaches students from grades 9 to 12. During the 2002-2003 school year, 64% of these students were of Asian origin, 30% European American (White), 4% Latino or Hispanic, 1% African American, 1% Filipino, 0.3% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.2% Pacific Islander.

Academics

Mission San Jose currently has the highest academic ranking of all public high schools (not including magnet schools) in California with an API of 915 in 2004.

Interesting Facts

  • The school mascot is the warrior, but the symbol is Mission Peak (located near the school and is east of Fremont).
  • The school colors are green and white.
  • Kristi Yamaguchi went to Mission San Jose High School and grew up in Fremont, California (even though she was born in Hayward, California).
  • There is currently a Japanese (as a foreign language) class available.
  • There are currently 23 valedictorians (students with a 4.0 GPA or higher) in the class of 2005.
