Berlin-Mitte

Berlin-Mitte or Mitte is the central-most borough of Berlin (Mitte is German for centre). The core area was in East Berlin, in 2001 it expanded to include the former boroughs of Wedding and Tiergarten (both of which formerly belonged to West Berlin). It encompasses an area of 39.47 km² and has, as of 2003, about 320,700 inhabitants. Its current mayor is Joachim Zeller (CDU).
