Premise of the Show

A team of five people with mechanical, fabricating, or modifying expetice builds a "monster machine." A ussauly stock vehicle is turned into something else (EX: PT Cruiser / Wood Chipper), a race car (EX: Lincoln Continental / Open Road Racer), or a custom car (EX: Ford Model A ratrod)

The Rules

A team of five (Plus skilled host Jesse James) has one day to design and concieve the vehicle, five days to build and test it, and one day to race/ or final test the monster. The original two seasons have a $3000 (US) budget, while the more recent seasons have a budget of $5000 (US), but are limited to only one free item.

The Host

Host Jesse G. James is the direct descendant of the legendary wild-west outlaw, Jesse James. He has both mechanical and metal fabricating expetice, and is the founder, owner, and head bike builder for his custom chopper shop, West Coast Choppers. Jesse says he likes monsters that go fast and do something. He prefers hard working build crew members. His favorite monster vehicles to date are the Ford Ambulance Wheel-stander and the Chevrolet Blazer Pikes Peak hill climber.

The Monsters

Over sixty "monsterized" vehicles have came out the monster garage, including a special two-part, two team face-off build. For more information on the monsters, go to http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/monstergarage/episode/episode.html

Failed Monsters

With rules as tight as they are int the monster garage, there is a 1 out of 10 failure rate of monster builds. When a team fails to complete a vehicle in time, it is destroyed by host Jesse James. The most memorable of all failures is undoubtably the Cadillac Hearse / Car Crusher. The failed monster was fed through a car shredder in the Terminal Island scrapyard. As it went through the car shredder, the propane tank that was placed inside the car exploded, sending fire houndreds of feet into the sky. Other doomed monsters were shot apart with a machine gun, melted in a steel refinining factory, and blown up with dynamite.
