Mont-Tremblant, Quebec

Mont-Tremblant, Quebec is a small village in the Laurentian mountains about one hour forty-five minutes north of Montreal. It is most famous for the Mont Tremblant Ski Resort, which is a few kilometers from the village proper, and right at the foot of a mountain called Mont Tremblant, which means "trembling mountain" in French. The top of the mountain has a restaurant, open in winter and summer. The summit is at an elevation of 2871 feet (875 m), which makes it higher than all the surrounding hills.

The main ski resort offers about 600 acres (2.4 km²) of ski and snowboarding trails. The surrounding hills and valleys are filled with trails for cross country skiing. The ski trails connect with other ski trails in neighboring towns, making it possible for nature lovers to undertake ski excursions lasting several days going (or coming from) as far south as Blainville, Quebec on the outskirts of Montreal.

Mont-Tremblant has gotten a lot of tourism based on Mont Tremblant as it is one of the premier ski resorts in eastern North America. Lowell Thomas, the American radio broadcaster, was an avid skiier who helped to popularize the resort. He would broadcast many editions of his radio show from Mont-Tremblant.

It is primarily French-speaking; however since Mont Tremblant village and Mont Tremblant are tourist attractions, many residents are bilingual.

There are many hotel facilities situated in the village and at the hill itself. It is a four-season destination with activities going on during most months. The surrounding valleys have small lakes, dense boreal forests and thousands of vacation cottages. There are also golf courses, hiking trails and small rivers suitable for gentle canoeing.

There are many paths for mountain bikes and there is a special "route verte" cycling path which is surfaced for normal bicycles and makes it possible for nature lovers who are also pedaling enthusiasts to make short trips or excursions lasting several days going (or coming from) as far South as Blainville, Quebec on the outskirts of Montreal. The cycle path was built on the abandoned right of way of the Montreal-Mont Laurier railway, so the cyclists do not have to share the path with motorized vehicles.

Mont-Tremblant has a race track called Circuit Mont-Tremblant. It once hosted Indy Car, Formula One, Can-Am, Trans-Am competitions and currently hosts the Grand-Am Cup
