Monty Novotny
Monty Novotny is an American luthier that came to prominence after working at ODE Banjo Company (later OME) of Boulder, Colorado. Novotny later went onto NBN guitars with two partners, brothers Reb and Andy Bennett. Reb and Andy both were builders; Reb also handled most customer relations; Andy bent all the sides. Monty later went out on his own as Novotny custom guitars and Banjos in Longmont, Colorado. Regular customers included Pete Wernick & Tim O'Brian of Hot Rize , Puna of Navarro and Stephen Stills. Novotny passed away in the early 1980s. His instruments are now considered collectable. Monty built an occasional electric guitar and bass. The NBN guitars are the first production guitars to employ a removeable, bolt-on neck. Novotny made the necks for Winfield, Kansas guitar factory, Mossman.
