Moonseed (Stephen Baxter)

Moonseed is the title of a 1998 Science Fiction book by the author Stephen Baxter.

Moonseed is an exploration of what happens when something brought back from the moon (whether nanobots, an alien virus or something else) starts eating into earth rock, turning into more Moonseed.

Stephen Baxter skillfully combines space travel, geology and disaster theory to demonstrate the collapse of society, as the rock beneath our feet collapses away. We are treated with the destruction of Venus, Edinburgh, nuclear power stations and finally the Earth explodes for our pleasure.
