Motility
Motility is the ability to move spontaneously and independently.
Often, in biology or biomedical engineering, this refers to directed cell movement down gradients established in biopolymers such as:
- a chemical gradient chemotaxis
- a rigidity gradient haptotaxis
- a gradient of cell adhesion sites
More information on cell motility can be found under cell biology.
