Mount Royal College

Mount Royal College is an undergraduate college located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The school facilitates approximately 8,532 students and offers more than 60 degree, diploma, university transfer and certificate programs in areas such as arts, business, communications, health and community studies, and science and technology.

Mount Royal College was founded in 1910 in Calgary City Centre. William Henry Cushing was elected the first chairman of the board of directors and held this position until 1926. In 1972, the main campus was moved to Lincoln Park in the city's southwest. Mount Royal College now operates in three locations - Lincoln Park, City Centre, and Holy Cross.

They have recently (2003) finished an extensive renovation and addition, including new residences, and two new clasroom halls.

MRC or MRU?

With the growing size of the City of Calgary it has been suggested that a second University be constructed to better accommodate students; Mount Royal has shown interest in becoming a University. However such action requires the approval of the Alberta Government which is not likely under the current government. Although Opposition Leader Kevin Taft has promised to make Mount Royal College into a University.
