Museum of Railway

Museum of Railway (Japanese: 鉄道博物館 Tetsudō Hakubutsukan) is the name for a museum projected to be opened in 2007 or early 2008 in Onari-cho, Omiya-ku, Saitama, Saitama, Japan. It is specialised to research and education of history, science and technology about railway. The East Japan Railway Culture Foundation, a not-for-profit affiliate of the East Japan Railway Company will build and operate it. It has a 19,800-square metre (m²) building built on the 42,500 m² campus, with 9,500 m² display area.

The museum will feature about 30 railway cars, train cockpit simulators, railway model georamas , mini trains, storages for artifacts and books, video booths, a multi-purpose hall, a gallery balcony, a cafeteria, a museum shop and a research room.

It is the successor for the Transportation Museum in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. The non-railway collections will be lended to other museums.
