NewNet

The New Net, alternately known as NewNet, is a network of six local television stations owned by CHUM. Many of the stations are former CBC affiliates.

The stations in NewNet broadcast to smaller television markets that are close to larger ones. (CHUM's stations in larger cities are branded as Citytv.)

NewNet stations never refer to themselves as NewNet, except for system-wide advertising transactions. Instead, each station is known as "The New XX", where XX is the last two call letters of each station.

On March 15, 2005, CHUM announced that it would rebrand the NewNet stations under the A-Channel banner as of the coming fall, at the same time as the existing A-Channel stations elsewhere (acquired by CHUM from Craig Media) are to be converted to the Citytv brand.

Programming

NewNet stations are known to broadcast programs which are syndicated or aired on the smaller American television networks (such as UPN and The WB) in addition to a great deal of local programming and a few movies. Much of the primetime lineup on NewNet stations is comprised of United States programming.
