The New Warriors first appeared in issue #411 of the Marvel Comics title Thor. The issue was written by Tom DeFalco and featured the original six members. The team subsequently spun off into their own title, written by Fabian Nicieza and drawn by Mark Bagley. This creative team remained with the title until issue 25, when Bagley left to pursue other work. He was replaced by Darick Robertson . Nicieza left shortly after #50 and was replaced by Evan Skolnik .

The title ran for 75 issues before being cancelled.

A short-lived relaunch began in 1999, and ran for 10 issues (plus a promotional #0). It was written by Jay Faerber and pencilled by a variety of artists, including Steve Scott , Karl Kerschl and Jamal Igle , with which latter artist Faerber has subsequently worked on several occasions.

A relaunch of the title is planned for June 2005, written by Zeb Wells and pencilled by Skottie Young , and featuring the team (with a line-up of Night Thrasher, Speedball, Nova, Namorita, Microbe and an as-yet unnamed character) as the stars of a reality TV show.
