Newbottle, County Durham
Newbottle is a village in the North-East of England, lying directly between Durham and Sunderland, one and a half miles north of Houghton-le-Spring. The name Newbottle derives from the Saxon 'Neop Boel' meaning 'new settlement'.
Local landmarks include Penshaw Monument, and Durham Cathedral. The local church, St Matthews, dates from 1850.
