Nichita Stănescu (31 March 1933, Ploieşti - 13 December 1983, Bucharest) was the most representative Romanian poet of our times, spoiled by the public and critics.

He was the first born of Tatiana and Nicolae Stănescu (he says that is born "from a Romanian peasant arrived to town and a Russian woman"). His name is after his grandfathers. Highschool at Ploieşti. Philosophy in Bucharest (1957). His debut is at "Tribuna". He is editor at "Gazeta literară", "România liberă", "Luceafărul". Editorial debut: "Sensul iubirii" ("Luceafarul" collection, 1960). Prizes for poetry. The most important is Herder Prize (1975). He was known to party and he drank enormous amounts of vodka. This reckless life cost him a lot: he died at the age of 50. He let us a legendary name and important books in the postbellic literature: "O viziune a sentimentelor", "Dreptul la timp", "11 elegii", "Alfa", "Oul şi sfera", "Necuvintele", "Un pamânt numit România". Quote:"The only real things which we are taking with us in the end are our own feelings, our loves, our hates and adversities. I ask myself: at the end of life, what will we leave outside? I suppose we can leave some feelings. Less of hate, some of passion and... a lot of love." "Singurele lucruri reale,singurele lucruri pe care le ducem cu noi pana la urma sunt propriile noastre sentimente,dragostele noastre, patemile nostre,urile si adversitatile noastre.Ma-ntreb:noi, la capatul vietii, ce-am lasa in afara?" Banuiesc ca putem lasa niste sentimente. Mai putin de ura,intrucatva de patemi dar...de dragoste mai ales.
