Nijvel gang

The Nijvel gang (Flemish: Bende van Nijvel) is the group thought to be responsible for the massacre of Brabant, a series of violent attacks that occurred in Brabant, Belgium from 1982 to 1985 and resulted in 29 deaths.

The group that carried out these armed robberies of bars, supermarkets and a weapons depot initially identified itself as the "Fighting Communist Cells" (CCC), supposedly acting in protest against NATO plans of deploying MGM-31 Pershing missiles in Europe. The attacks were carried out with almost military precision, leading to suspicions that this effort to destabilize the country came from disgruntled right-wing members of the Rijkswacht, a national military-style police force. The weapons used to carry out the murders were stolen from a police arsenal. The crimes were never solved.
