Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (born January 12, 1982 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is a young student leader, activist and commentator.
Early life
He grew up in the suburb of Petaling Jaya. He was educated at a former Christian missionary school, La Salle, and then went to the prestigious Malay College Kuala Kangsar.
He did his form six at Kolej Matrikulasi Yayasan Saad (KMYS) and is currently reading law at King's College London.
At KMYS he was president of the Student Council. He was also an executive committee member of the Political Education Unit, Institute for Policy Research. He also founded a Malaysian youth website, Suaraanum.com.
In the United Kingdom, he became active in his college's Labour Student Society and the Federation of Students Islamic Societies (FOSIS). Among the Malaysian students in the UK he was also secretary of the Malaysian Law Students Union and vice chairman of the Malaysian Students Executive Council (UKEC).
Nik Nazmi is also president of Alumni KMYS.
He writes in Malay and English for the Asia Times, Aliran, IViews, Malaysiakini, Kakiseni, Tamadun, Harakah, Education Quarterly and Seruan Keadilan.
Nik Nazmi is also a contributor to the BBC World Service radio programme.
