Nonylphenol
Nonylphenol is an organic compound of the wider family of alkylphenols. It is a product of synthesis, not naturally present in the environment. For this reason it is a xenobiotic. Nonylphenol is indeed the name of a cluster of isomers formed during the alkylation process of phenols. In nonylphenols an idrocarburic chain of nine carbon atoms is attached to the phenol ring in position para, that is to the fourth carbon atom of the ring (see figure). Nonylphenol is a pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The compound's melting point is -10°C and boiling point is 295-320°C.
