Norm Peterson

Hillary Norman "Norm" Peterson was a character on the TV show Cheers. The part of Norm Peterson was played by actor George Wendt.

Norm is an accountant, later an unemployed accountant and housepainter, and the bar's most popular customer. His entrance into the bar is a much-celebrated affair, typically beginning with an exchange of greetings, followed by a wisecrack:

Norm: Good afternoon, everybody.
People in Cheers: NORM!
Sam: How's the world treating you, Norm?
Norm: It's a dog-eat-dog world, Sammy, and I'm wearing Milkbone underwear.

In the 200th episode special, it's revealed that Norm is actually the only character to star in every episode of Cheers. He is the person who "everybody knows your name."

Norm has a wife named Vera who is often mentioned but almost never seen. When she is finally shown, her face is covered in a thrown pie. The only other time she is seen, viewers can see only her legs. Norm's best friend is postman and fellow bar fly Cliff Clavin.

The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine character of Morn was loosely based on as well as named after Norm.
