North of 60

North of 60 was a mid-1990s Canadian television series depicting life in the Arctic (north of 60 degrees North latitude, hence the title). It is set in a native town and most of the characters were Slavey. Some non-native characters had important roles: the shopkeeper, the band manager and the nurse. The show explored themes of native poverty, alcoholism, cultural preservation and conflict over land settlements and natural resource exploitation.

Starring in the series were Tina Keeper as Michelle Kenidi, Tracey Cook as Sarah Birkett, Tom Jackson as Peter Kenidi, Gordon Tootoosis as Albert Golo, Dakota House as Trevor 'Teevee' Tenia, Jimmy Herman as Joe Gomba and Simon Baker as Charlie Muskrat. Adam Beach and Tantoo Cardinal also starred. Elsie Tsa Che (Wilma Pelly ) was a fan favorite, a silent but powerful elder character.

One of the stars was Michael Horse , as Andrew One Sky, previously best-known for his portrayal of Tonto in the 1981 box office disaster, Legend of the Lone Ranger, and for his co-starring role in Twin Peaks.

The series was filmed in Bragg Creek, Alberta, a town just west of Calgary.
