Novosibirsk State University
Novosibirsk State University was founded in May 1959 by the academicians Lavrentiev, Sobolev and Khristianovich in a program of estabilishing a Siberian Branch of Sciences. The University is one of the most famous universities in the Russian Federation, although being somewhat young. The university is located 25 kilometers from the city of Novosibirsk, a cultural and industrial centre of Siberia. The total number of students in the year 1999 was 5200.
