"On the Transmigration of Souls" by John Adams is a work commissioned to the composer shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. It is scored for chorus and orchestra, containing texts from the countless "missing person" signs that became such a heartwrenching symbol of the attacks, both narrated and sung.
