One (railway)
Description
'one' is the brand name of a railway company that operates local, suburban and express services from London Liverpool Street in the City of London to East London, Essex and East Anglia, otherwise known as the Greater Anglia network. 'one' is part of the National Express Group.
The Greater Anglia network was awarded to a single operator as part of a drive to reduce the number of train companies operating to major termini in an effort to improve integration between services and reliability, and replaces the previous separate train operating companies Anglia Railways, First Great Eastern and WAGN. The company is now the sole passenger operator on the Great Eastern Main Line.
Services
'one' used sub-branding to help passengers distinguish between its services. This has now been discontinued with all services now simply branded 'one', the sub-brands were:
- one Anglia - mainline services to Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich as well as local services in the Suffolk and Norfolk. For further information on rural lines see the following links.
- Bittern Line (Norwich-Cromer-Sheringham)
- East Suffolk Line (Ipswich-Lowestoft)
- Sudbury Branch Line (Marks Tey-Sudbury)
- Wherry Lines (Norwich-Great Yarmouth/Lowestoft)
- one Great Eastern - mainline services to Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich and Clacton as well as local services to Shenfield and Southend.
- one West Anglia - services to Cambridge, Enfield, Hertford East and Chingford, plus local services from Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport. A new service from Stratford to Stansted Airport is expected to start by 2005.
- one Stansted Express - express services between Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport.
