Orlando Hubbs

Orlando Hubbs (18 February 1840 - 5 December 1930) was a U.S. Congressman from North Carolina between 1881 and 1883.

Born in Commack, New York, Hubbs attended local schools and went to Northport in 1856 and learned the trade of a carriage and wagon builder. He subsequently became employed as a ship’s joiner at Hunters Point, New York .

In 1865, Hubbs moved to New Bern, North Carolina and became engaged in mercantile pursuits. He took an active part in organizing the Republican Party in North Carolina. From 1871 to 1881 he was sheriff of Craven County, and in 1880 was elected as a Republican to the 47th United States Congress (March 4, 1881 - March 3, 1883). He did not stand for re-election in 1882, and returned to New York state in 1890, settling in Central Islip.

Hubbs was a member of the New York Assembly from 1902 to 1908 and served in the New York Senate in 1910 and 1911. He lived in Smithtown Branch , Suffolk County, New York, until his death in 1930; his body is interred in Commack Cemetery, in his hometown of Comack, New York.
